My Favorite Android App: MilesTrac

by Vickie on May 25, 2011

As a business owner, I track my mileage to all the events and client meetings I go to. It’s definitely worth the little bit of effort for that (very) nice tax deduction. For the last couple years I’ve been using a notebook in my car, but it was just a little awkward. So when I got my iPod, a mileage app was the first app I tried to find. While I could find several, none of them was just right. Most of them not only tracked mileage, but also oil changes, tire pressure, maintenance schedules, etc. They would track fifty things about my car, but never simply just mileage. And of the few that did just simply do mileage, they used a wheel to scroll for the miles. At over 100,000 miles, that’s 6 wheels to scroll for every stop and start. Not to mention nothing for a notes field. Too much work and unnecessarily complicated.

Now comes my Android. A mileage tracking app was again one of the first apps I looked for and it wasn’t long before I found MilesTrac in the AndroidMarket. It simply tracks mileage start, stop, a field for Destination, and a field for Notes. Then there’s also a log you can email to yourself. It’s comes in a CSV format, and automatically adds the mileage up for each event. How terrific is that for monthly tracking!! Awesome! And on my phone I can voice the Destination and Notes fields. There is also an option to carry over the previous mileage input. That means your end mileage reading will be the start reading for your next trip. That’s great if you track every single mile, but I just do business miles, so that’s not the most important feature for me.

Visit the AndroidMarket or take a picture of the QR Code to download it. if you’re not sure about QR Codes, check out this post on how to create QR Codes, then stay tuned for a review of my favorite QR code reder Android app.
